First Federal Expands
Officials at First Federal Bank, announced the opening of their Trust Department at Hazleton Center, 2 East Broad Street. Bernard Miskin, Senior Vice President of the Bank, made the announcement. “We were looking for a location that projected the image of sound, secure and prudent management of client funds. We found that at Hazleton Center.” Lou Danzico, building manager said, “With the addition of First Federal, the building is 95% occupied.”


Webster Towers at 100%
Fran Plotkin, Administrator of Webster Towers Apartments announced that occupancy has reached 100%. “Our spacious community broom is a hub of activity. The broad range of activities centers on the interest and needs of the residents, allowing them to enhance their lives through their involvement in the monthly social calendar. Resident participation is the key to active lives and the success of each of our programs.” commented Ms. Plotkin. Webster Towers also opens their Community Room to neighborhood organizations for meetings. “Bringing news of the community into the building is another way to keep the residents active, informed and vital.”


Geneva House Hosts a “Saucy Affair”
A Saucy Affair, a catered Valentine’s Day Dinner, took place on February 14th. An accordionist, a Russian immigrant who was a professional musician before he moved to America, played lots of oldies but goodies. His playing was heavily Russian influenced so “Take Me Out To The Ballgame" and others had an unusual sound!

Another gathering, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, named “Friendly Neighbors of St. Patrick’s” was held March 9th. The building staff decided to cook the food themselves with the help of five volunteers. “We met in the community room at 2:00 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. we presented a meal that was enough to feed fifty! The community room kitchen was well tested,” said Kay Danzico, Manager of Geneva House.


Forum Towers Undertakes Upgrades
Forum Towers Apartments recently completed an improvement project on the public hallways in the building. New carpet and painting was installed on floors two and three of the nine story building.

Association President Bill Williams said that the project is a continuation of a policy to continually upgrade the building.


Broad Street Business Exchange New Home to LCCC
Jon Larson, President of Luzerne County Community College announced in early December that the school will locate its Hazleton campus at the Broad Street Business Exchange. A grand opening celebration is scheduled for late August.

In preparation for the school tenancy. Jack Kesselring, President of the Board announced that construction will begin in early April. The School will occupy the entire fourth floor as well as a substantial portion of the second floor. They will also have a shop on the main floor of the building.

Lou Danzico, President of Management Enterprises, Inc., management and leasing agent for the building said that the agreement capped over two years of negotiations with the school. “We believe this project will be good for the school, the building as well as the City.” he added.


Amos Towers Volunteers Honored
Some forty residents of Amos Towers, Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, were recently honored at a Volunteers Recognition Brunch. All honorees were treated to a delicious brunch in the building Community Room. Irwin Schneider, Board President and Alison Boga, Administrator presented the volunteers with Certificates of Appreciation.

Some upcoming events include a fund drive to furnish the recently constructed Exercise Room and adjacent Computer Networking/Library. Ms. Boga commented that “Our goal is to allow residents to remain physically and mentally active and healthy.” “Residents will be able to use the Internet to look up information and to e-mail family and friends.” she continued.

On another matter, Ms. Boga noted that for the last two years residents and staff of the building have been participating in City Pride, a citywide week encouraging citizens to clean up and fix up their neighborhood. Ms Boga commented. “Our clean-up for this year is scheduled for May third.”
